"TMAT Winter Cup - Watching the Seeds Flourish

Winter Cup was one of those comps where you could really see the seeds planted at the start of the year starting to flourish.

At our Summer Comp, we had skaters who needed to hold a coach’s hand because they were so nervous. This time, those same skaters were skating independently, smiling and backing themselves.

We had new skaters who had wanted to come to earlier comps but just weren’t ready yet. This time they took the leap - and did so well.

We also had two more skaters make the jump from Paikea into Whetū, taking on much harder content and absolutely smashing it.

But probably our favourite part was seeing our skaters helping each other.

Our Whetū skaters were skating alongside the newer skaters when they needed support, playing games with them, cheering them on and helping hand out certificates.

They had gone from being the ones needing a hand, to being the ones offering it.

And honestly, that is what we want to see.

Not just better skaters, but skaters who look out for each other.

A huge thank you to our coaches and volunteers who gave up their time to organise and run the day, and to our TMAT whānau for getting behind these opportunities.

It takes a lot of people to make a comp happen, and we are so grateful for every single one of you.

Winter Cup was a pretty special reminder of why we do it. 🤍"
